“Maggots falling from an overhead bin from a spoiled container of meat forced a US Airways flight to return to the gate so the bin could be cleaned. Passenger Donna Adamo said she noticed a couple of flies on the Monday flight when she got to her seat but didn’t think much of it. Then, as the plane was taxiing, she heard a passenger behind her causing a commotion and refusing to take her seat. “Then I heard the word ‘maggot’ and that kind of got everybody creeped out,” she said. “All of a sudden, I felt somebody flick the back of my hair and on the front of me came a maggot, which I flicked off me.” —Maggots force plane back to gate in Atlanta

“

The GOP is finally asking for Americans to step up to the plate and do their part to support the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. At least some Americans:

Ensuring there’s enough money to pay for the war will require reforming the country’s entitlement system, [House Minority Leader John] Boehner said. He said he’d favor increasing the Social Security retirement age to 70 for people who have at least 20 years until retirement, tying cost-of-living increases to the consumer price index rather than wage inflation and limiting payments to those who need them.

Not only could our seniors prove their patriotism by working for several more years, it would mean our brothers in banking won’t have to continue to pay the price for their meltdown.

Daily Kos: Boehner says it’s time senior citizens did their part for the war effort

Rex Sez: I don’t think this is the answer to ending a war (2 of them) that didn’t need started. I have a feeling there will be both Democrats, Republicans, and anyone with any gray matter in their head that will disagree with this opinion.

“Job interviews are meant to be conversations. The interviewer asks some questions and the interviewee does the same. It’s never a good sign when an interviewee doesn’t have any questions. It shows a lack of interest. This is particularly true when interviewing for a startup job because there tend to be so many more unknowns at startups compared to more established, bigger organizations. Recently someone asked me, “I’m thinking of taking a job offer from a startup. I’ll have to relocate. I have some concerns. What questions should I ask?” —8 Questions to Ask When Interviewing at a Startup

bijan sabet: When someone else's problem becomes your problem → bijansabet.com

sawickipedia:

rafer:

mikehudack:

This morning I drove to work and a guy in front of me was weaving in and out of traffic. Frantically.

It was pretty clear this guy was late for a meeting, the airport or whatever. And he was creating a headache for everyone else around him. His problem became everyone else’s problem.

…

Rafer sez:
Sounds like the way VC-backed startups make product and pricing decisions when the money is running out and the last post-money is out of reach. Thanks, Bijan.

Sawickipedia: This is actually one of the reasons we shut down lookery.  Too many startups in the data space, over-hiring sales people in an early stage market that was way too far from being mature.  Nothing like trying to justify rational pricing to a potential customer in an irrational market.

Rex Sez: So it was the “I’m running late” feeling we all had near the end of Lookery.

“Everyone knows that MINT has a great product, but few know the strategic moves. To the point, what did it take to get there? How much did it cost to get started? When and how was it smart to raise money such that both the founder and the investors walked away happy? Aaron opened up MINT.com’s books - and his old slide decks - tonight to share some shockingly frank details with the startups in attendance. Even more generously, he was happy to have his lessons be blogged for a more public audience: The straight shot: Why should you raise money, and how much?” —
